29/01/2012 Track Data Base Primer
The MSTS Track Data Base is largely undocumented and it would seem that few have been brave enough to explore and survey the territory.
This text attempts to broach the subject and present relatively straight forward examples in an informal manner.

28/01/2012 WTT Woodhead freight 1956
This working timetable covers the British Railways (Eastern Region) in the Manchester District: so in essence it covers the Woodhead route.
This means that it covers freight trains over Woodhead as far as Mottram Yard; and a separate table in this book covers Mottram to Manchester. It also covers some branches that are not in the RW or MSTS renditions of the Woodhead route.
It was valid from September 1956 to June 1957, so in other words shortly after electric haulage had taken over full operation of the Woodhead route.
Working timetables can be quite tricky to get the hang of if you haven't encountered one before: make sure you refer to the symbols page at the front of the book to unlock the secrets of engine changes, recovery time and so on.
Copyright has lapsed in this publication so I can't prevent you uploading it to other websites. But I'd rather you didn't because I want to support UKTS, and if you do please at least tell me that you are doing so as a courtesy, and include a link to www.uktrainsim.com.

28/01/2012 WTT Woodhead passenger 1955
This working timetable covers the British Railways (Eastern Region) in area between Sheffield and Manchester: so in essence it covers the Woodhead route.
This means that it covers passenger trains from Manchester (London Road) over Woodhead as far as Sheffield Victoria. It also covers some branches that are not in the RW or MSTS renditions of the Woodhead route, such as the route via Marple to Macclesfield, and the OAGB line from Guide Bridge to Oldham.
It was valid from September 1955 to June 1956, so in other words shortly after electric haulage had taken over full operation of the Woodhead route.

27/01/2012 Potato Pick Up
This is a scenario for the Somerset and Dorset default route that utilises the DT Class 4MT as the player locomotive.
The scenario begins with your locomotive in Templecombe Upper Yard as it marshals its train ready for departure. Your train is a collection of vans that have been put together to help move this year s potato harvest.
This special working will collect produce from both Templecombe and Wincanton and then deliver it to the marshalling sidings at Evercreech for onward shipment to other parts of the country.
There are several manual points that need to be switched to enable you to complete this scenario so please pay attention to all instructions given whilst you are en-route.
A RW Tools stock list has been put in the readme but I believe that everything used in this scenario is either default or part of the DT Class 4MT pack.
There is plenty of AI in this scenario plus plenty of manual switching of points to keep you on your toes.
I hope you enjoy this scenario.
Any problems them please contact me by PM. |
27/01/2012 Empties to Writhlington
An easy rainy activity for Clive Heard's Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (Download Version). Take out one of the new-to-Bath 8Fs as you do a run to Writhlington Colliery and back to Bath Green Park. The rain is graciously dropping to make your visiblity so much better!
Make sure of course that you have installed all of the stock in the Stock List! Also insure that you have the latest versions of all the locos that have been updated with AI locos.
Tested and approved by Pilots (Jim Ashman).
VERSION HISTORY:
v1.0 - original upload
v1.1 - Briefing fixed to properly direct you to your destination. The original said to stop on the siding to complete the run, but you really have to go to Bath Shed to get the ending trigger. If you ran the act okay, then there is no need to download this version.
Enjoy!

27/01/2012 The Miniature Railway
UPDATED - 26/01/12 - just to extend seaside horizon.
This is a very simple route that I created and is loosely based on the North Bay Railway that runs from Peasholm to Scalby Mills in Scarborough.
It's quite basic, but I've included 3 scenarios for you to try - each about 20 minutes. Well its just up and down and put the loco to bed .
. . one daylight and one late evening.
I haven't included a freeroam - simply because you'd be doing exactly the same as the 3 scenarios
It runs fine on TS2012 - but errors on Railworks 2 (track problem - others probably wont get that) - so use TS2012 for this one.
The turntable is totally unrealistic for the task - but it does what it's supposed to do so I have left it in.
Loco - is a steam loco, totally unrealistic for this route and there for the purpose of running the route. I'm working on a scaled down A3 and will put diesel sounds on it - might take me months to complete.
Assets needed: Just search on trainsim, but I have tried to use assets that I think people would already have, namely;
Phorum Peninsula aka Project Platform
Platforms v1 (UKTS_26326)
UKTS_27068 NG30lbTrack
UKTS_19643_Kngtrains_Alpha_Dolgoch_(TR)
and that's about all you need . .. .
Hope it works for you . . . and keep to them speed limits!

26/01/2012 Revised NWC Activity 7T91 - NWC2
This activity did not work as the global traffic pattern was fouling up the return to Llandudno Junction.
A new traffic pattern has been created that keeps the return path clear.
To install FIRSTLY Unstore everything from the mini route loader and then run the program provided, it is set to the default installation path for the UKTS mini route. If you have the route in your normal MSTS installation it's probably easiest to install to an empty folder and then see where the files should go.
NB: This is a NWC Part 2 activity that visits the Blaenau Ffestiniog branch. It will not work with just part 1. The UKTS disc has BOTH parts.
Many thanks to Pilots (Jim Ashman) for testing this. |
26/01/2012 Revised NWC Activity 7P40-2
This activity did not work as the wrong consist was used meaning the loco was at the back of the train.
With the second part of the route installed, there were two broken paths, These were as follows :-
2D70
2D70L
IF YOU ONLY HAVE PART 1 OF THIS ROUTE INSTALLED DO NOT INSTALL THIS AMENDMENT!!!
If you do you will end up with the two paths broken.
For those with only part 1 there are two possible courses of action.
1) Fix it yourself by going into the Activity editor and replacing the player consist with 7P40-2.
2) Copy the above two paths to somewhere safe, install the activity and then replace the paths.

26/01/2012 F.A.B! The Beattock Episode - repeat!
25/01/2012: Version 1.1
Improved the weather - an experimental version crept into the upload somehow, it wasn't switching patterns properly.
It really should be miserably foggy, if it isn't - and someone's screenshot wasn't - there's something amiss and I'd encourage you to drop me a note. We've spent some time on weather, it would be a shame if it went to waste.
24/01/2012: Version 1.0
What's all this then
--------------------
A steam era scenario for WCML-North
A gloomy evening in 1965, and you're crewing the Lockerbie station pilot - today a Jubilee substituting for the usual BR Standard 5. What is normally an easy turn ends up harder than you could possibly have imagined...
Comes with additional foggy weather originally by Steve Dark, which I butchered.
Requirements
------------
* WCML-N from Steam
* RSC Jubilee from Steam
* UKTS Freeware Steam/Carriage/Wagon packs
Installation
------------
- Install the requirements
- Install this package.
- Clear your cache
Issues
------
Well... there's wires, and LED signals, and track has been taken up since the 60s.
No buggy signals as far as anyone can tell though.
Credits
-------
Steve for the fog, arguments, not blowing up
Jim for running out of water - somebody had to!
Let us know what time you finished.

25/01/2012 Revised NWC Activity 7P40
This activity did not work as there was a permanent red at Rhyl, needless to say, right at the very end of the activity.
This has been fixed, spelling errors corrected and you now have to STOP in the siding to end the activity.
In addition with the second part of the route installed, there were four broken paths, These were as follows :-
2D64
2D70
2D70L
2D81
IF YOU ONLY HAVE PART 1 OF THIS ROUTE INSTALLED DO NOT INSTALL THIS AMENDMENT!!!
If you do you will end up with the four paths broken.
For those with only part 1 there are two possible courses of action.
1) Fix it yourself by going into the Activity editor and removing service 7P40-2 from the Traffic window.
2) Copy the above four paths to somewhere safe, install the activity and then replace the paths.
To install FIRSTLY unstore everything from the mini loader and then run the program provided, it is set to the default installation path for the UKTS mini route. If you have the route in your normal MSTS installation it's probably easiest to install to an empty folder and then see where the files should go.
There is a further issue with this activity in that a 0mph speed limit is generated during shunting and remains in place, The only way around this is to run it with the stable 1.7 Bin patch represented by the Train.exe that is dated 19th May 2007.
Many thanks to Pilots (Jim Ashman) for testing this. |
